1996 – John Majka

In 1995, our high school team began a new fraternity, and that was one of State Champions. There were many unbelievable teams before us, but there was not a State Tournament to participate in. Our 1995 team was the first to win a State Championship in Clinton! We had the town hopping and partying!! We had a band, DUSK!! We had busloads of fans following us around the state as we continued to win, finishing the season 24-1-1. We defeated Batavia 5-0 in the state championship, in front of a sold-out Utica Auditorium!!! Fans went nuts!! I specifically remember climbing the glass and celebrating with the student section. We were then accompanied home by the Clinton Fire Dept. and parades through Clinton, hanging our heads out the windows to celebrate with the Clintonians cheering along the streets!! Coach Suppe and Coach Alteri looked at me and said, “You won’t even realize what you have accomplished or done for this town for another 30 years.”…..and they were right. The bond this team still has when we run into each other at Alteri’s or the Rok is amazing…like we were on that bus together just last week!!
