1947 – Claire Burns
Claire went to her first hockey game ever, by herself, as a new teacher at Clinton Elementary School. She had been a good athlete, yet had never seen a hockey game. She left after the game, and the next day at school brought up in conversation “that it was a good game, but too bad the Clinton Team lost.” The rest of the teachers said, “What are you talking about? They won.” This is when Mom found out that, like no other sport, there are three periods (in lieu of two halves) to a hockey game. She never forgot there were three periods after that, and believe me, she watched plenty.
